God in All Places and People

The Lord’s kindness is something brought up time and time again, yet I actually tend to hear from others a lot more of the all-powerful and almighty Lord more than the kind, honest, and merciful Lord highlighted in today’s reading. These readings today, in particular, breakdown our interactions with the goodness of God.

God takes many forms and it is important that we both understand and are able to respond to each likeness of God we encounter. I see God specifically in two places that are really important to me. The first of these two places are in nature and in my surroundings. In many readings, you see mentions of nature whether it is nature as the likeness of God or as a reflection of God. In this reading we see God’s covenant reflected as “the stars of heaven, or the sand on the shore of the sea.” It is equally important to see God all around us in our present circumstances - as we walk from Bueno to school or as we walk through the hallways. God has put all of these visuals in our life to help make us better.

The second place I see God is through my interactions with the people around me. This, to me, is much more applicable to today’s readings. God calls us to remember when we deal with other people, we do so with our whole heart and fill ourselves with kindness and compassion for others.

Forgiveness is the hardest part of working with people. Life is filled with hurt and it hurts more when it’s from others. The reading reminds us that forgiveness is the key to our happiness. Holding onto things from the past leads us into nothing but more pain. When we forgive others and let go of the pain from the past, we need to remember to forgive freely as well - without any other agenda on our minds. We need to forgive from our heart with understanding and kindness.
